Deadly Attack at Jordan-Israel Border

Three Israelis were killed on Sunday when a shooter, crossing from Jordan, opened fire at the Allenby Bridge border in the West Bank. Israeli authorities reported that security forces responded by shooting and killing the attacker. This marks the first such incident at the Jordanian border since October 7, when Hamas launched an assault on southern Israel, igniting the ongoing conflict in Gaza.

The attack occurred in a cargo area managed by Israel, where Jordanian trucks offload goods destined for the West Bank. The crossing, also called the King Hussein Bridge, is located between Amman and Jerusalem, just north of the Dead Sea.

According to the Israeli military, "A terrorist arrived at the Allenby Bridge from Jordan in a truck, exited, and opened fire on Israeli security forces at the crossing."

Security forces neutralized the gunman, and three Israeli civilians were declared dead following the attack. Jordanian officials are investigating the incident, and the border crossing has been temporarily shut down.

The Israeli head of the crossing stated that the victims, three workers, were shot at close range by the driver.

Israel and Jordan have maintained peace since signing a treaty in 1994, with strong security cooperation. The Allenby Bridge sees daily truck crossings from Jordan, delivering goods to both the West Bank and Israel.
