In June 2024, Justin Timberlake was taken into custody for driving while intoxicated (DWI), making headlines across the country during his The Forget Tomorrow World Tour. The incident drew significant attention after news of his charge became public, although Timberlake was released from the Sag Harbor Police Department just hours after his arrest. Recently, after accepting a plea deal, Timberlake admitted he had made a "mistake" in a press conference.

Here’s everything we know about Timberlake’s arrest and his guilty plea. On June 18, the singer behind "Mirrors" was stopped by a police officer in the Hamptons, New York. According to the officer, Timberlake was pulled over after he failed to stop at a stop sign and failed to stay in his lane while driving. The officer further reported that Timberlake’s eyes appeared bloodshot, and he did poorly on the field sobriety tests after refusing a breathalyzer test three times.

Following the traffic stop, Timberlake was charged with driving while intoxicated and cited for two traffic violations—one for not stopping at a stop sign and the other for failing to stay in his lane. When questioned by the officer, Timberlake allegedly admitted to having "one martini" before driving. On September 13, 2024, Timberlake appeared in court at the Sag Harbor Village Justice Courthouse with his lawyer. Timberlake pleaded guilty to a noncriminal traffic violation of driving while impaired as part of a plea deal. However, the judge overseeing the case was reportedly dissatisfied with the terms of the agreement. The judge asked Timberlake if he would be willing to complete 5 to 40 hours of community service, which the singer agreed to, along with paying a $500 fine.

Following the court appearance, Timberlake addressed the media in a press conference, acknowledging his mistake.

“Many of you have followed my career for a long time, and I usually hold myself to a high standard," Timberlake said. "This time, I didn’t live up to that. I’ve reflected on my actions, and I could have made a better choice.”

He went on to urge people to avoid driving, even if they’ve only had "one drink."

“What I want to share with everyone watching and listening is that even if you’ve only had one drink, don’t get behind the wheel,” Timberlake stated. “There are so many alternatives—call a friend, use an Uber or a taxi, or take advantage of travel apps. I made a mistake, but I hope others can learn from it and make better decisions.”
